Principles of Increase
Introduction
Everything that is declared from God to us He wants to make manifest. The manifestation of His mercy and grace to us brings honor and glory to His Name. And for all this to happen He must find faith in our hearts when that promise comes to us. We need to develop faith or start to believe in what He says. This faith is composed of a few elements: hearing from God, hearing from His Word and doing our part. God sends us a revelation to our hearts by His Spirit. That revelation is based on His Word. Then we are moved to act on that revelation to see the results. Our actions are a) thoughts b) words and c) acts. All these actions are done in a spirit of humility that contradicts the spirit of the world.
In the New Testament we find the woman with the issue of blood, the centurion, Zacheus and many others examples of these principles:
Woman of issue of blood
1) Thought about Jesus healing power
2) Told herself about that healing power
3) Pressed through the crowd to touch Him
Centurion
1) Received revelation about the power in Jesus’ words
2) Made a public declaration that only one word from Jesus is enough
3) Went out to meet Jesus
Zacheus
1) Got revelation that he needed to Jesus to receive something from Him
2) Made a public declaration by his words (restoration to the cheated and to the poor)
3) Climbed a tree to see Jesus no matter how foolish it may have looked.
If we want increase we need to receive revelation, make a declaration and do our part to see that increase take place.
1) Do your part:
Gen. 1.28. “God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground”
God’s plan is multiplication and increase from the beginning. In this example we see how God gives the power to Adam to multiply. Adam has just to do his part to subdue the earth, but the authority and the power was given by God’s word. The authority over fish, birds… was given to men for provision. God used birds to feed Elijah and Jesus used fish to feed Peter’s family and friends.
2) Let God do His part:
Gen.22.17 “I will certainly bless you. I will multiply your descendants beyond number, like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will conquer the cities of their enemies.”
Since Adam’s sin God was looking for complete obedience in man. After a lifetime of faithfulness God tests Abraham. Abraham passes the test as He completely obeys the word of God to sacrifice his son Isaac. The result is this promise of multiplication of people and conquering cities. This time it is the Lord who has promised the multiplication. We as descendants of Abraham by faith and partakers of the promises benefit from that blessing. This will happen as we recognize the family of God. God’s design for our children is to become more than conquerors of the cities of our enemies. This indicates salvation and provision.
3) Remember the Lord (He gives you the power):
Det 8. 17-18. ‘You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.” But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the power (ability) to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today
The way that God fulfills His promise to His children is by giving them power or ability to create wealth. This event therefore becomes a testimony. Instead of saying “it is my power and strength” we should be ready to say “it is the Lord’s power and strength” Your wealth then becomes a testimony of God’s favor on you. Jesus said that we would become His witnesses. The Holy Spirit is the same who gives you the anointing to see a person healed by the power of God or a business idea create abundance, for instance by throwing your nets to the other side. Wealth goes beyond financial prosperity and includes the wisdom to multiply, keep and distribute the resources we have.
4) Sow bountifully according to the purposes (revelation of sowing) in your heart
2 Cor 9:10-11 “Now he that ministers seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness; Being enriched in everything to all bountifulness, who causes through us thanksgiving to God.”
God wants us to desire an expansion of His Kingdom (fruits of righteousness) and multiplication of seed (a desire to increase our giving). Giving is done to the poor, parents (honor), to apostolic work through the church… Note that the faith we use in the giving (how we give) is as important as what we give. The Lord is looking for cheerful bountiful givers.
5) Be the initiator and faithful sower to apostolic work
Phil 4:15-20: “Now you Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church shared with me as concerning giving and receiving, but you only. For even in Thessalonica you sent once and again unto my necessity. Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account. But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable, well pleasing to God. But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Now unto God and our Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.”
Paul was sharing revelation on giving and receiving but most churches were not accepting it. The church in Macedonia becomes a pioneer in sowing faithfully. Paul knew that that Lord would provide his need but was looking for multiplication of spiritual fruit in the Macedonian church. Paul’s declaration over them is profound: God will give them a revelation in Christ that will prove them experientially His riches in glory through His provision. If provision to your need comes packed in God’s riches and glory you will receive much more than the provision: it will become the enablement of your faith for God’s gifts do not only provide provision they provide transformation.
6) Make thanksgiving and blessing your lifestyle with whatever you have to see God's power multiply it for the good of many
Luke 9.16 "Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke them. Then he gave them to the disciples to distribute to the people." Jesus came to save, heal, deliver, provide... (to destroy the works of the evil one). He wanted to take care of people and had heaven's resources backing Him. He did not ask amiss (James 4.3). He gave thanks for He knew the miracle He was about to perform. The people have been following Him and paid a price to do so. They were so interested in what He had to say that they may have fainted going back home. Jesus did not criticize the disciples for not bringing bread or the whole group for their lack. In fact He used whatever they had to multiply it as they surrendered it to Jesus. "Small" surrender can yield great results for the benefit of many.
